Fashion & Textile Design at Z&L Europe

During my time at Z&L Europe, I led the creative direction and full production process across a wide range of fashion and textile categories. My work was deeply rooted in trend forecasting, using WGSN as a constant guide to ensure each collection spoke directly to current market demands.

From the early stages of research and concept development to final garment delivery, I was involved in every step. I collaborated closely with our mills in China, India, and Colombia to develop exclusive prints, fabric textures, and weaves that elevated each piece. Working hands-on with suppliers allowed me to maintain quality, meet production timelines, and bring each vision to life with precision.

While I started focusing on swimwear and activewear collections, the success of my work quickly led to the expansion of my department. I later took creative ownership of children’s wear, footwear, handbags, and accessories—ensuring a cohesive brand identity across all product lines. My designs were featured not only in our in-house collections but also in retail spaces like Free People, Boston Proper, and TJ Maxx.

I work with a range of industry tools including Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, and InDesign, and I’m passionate about thoughtful design that merges visual impact with functionality. My process always includes a focus on sustainability, responsible sourcing, and staying ahead of emerging trends.

This role allowed me to bring a 360° vision to product development—balancing creativity, technical execution, and commercial appeal to deliver high-quality, trend-relevant products from concept to consumer.

TEXTILE DESIGN FOR RESIDENTIAL AND HOSPITALITY

FOR FABRIC INNOVATION

Design Process

My textile design process begins with a conversation. I work closely with each client to understand the essence of the project—its inspiration, purpose, and desired color palette. We review all elements of the concept, from mood and story to the intended environment, ensuring that every detail reflects the client’s vision.

Once the creative direction is established, I begin researching trends and gathering visual references that align with the client’s guidelines. From there, I move into the design phase—developing repeats, fabric textures, and woven constructions. This includes constant communication with mills in China, India, Turkey, Mexico, and the United States. I oversee sample development, making adjustments and refinements until we achieve the right balance of design, texture, and color.

After the client approves the final fabric, colorway, and design, we move into production.

I’ve had the pleasure of designing for leading hospitality brands including Hilton and all its sub-brands, Edition, The Ritz-Carlton, One Hotel, Four Seasons, and Mandarin Oriental across the United States. My work includes textiles for drapery, sheers, bedding, decorative pillows, faux leather and upholstery.

Throughout the process, I ensure that all fabrics meet the required industry standards, including NFPA 701 and NFPA 260 (Standard Methods of Fire Tests for Flame Propagation of Textiles and Upholstered Furniture Components), as well as the Wyzenbeek Test for upholstery performance and durability.

TEXTILE DESIGNER FOR HOME DÉCOR AND PRODUCT DEVELOPMENT

POW WOW PRODUCTS

During my time at Pow Wow Products, I led the end-to-end design and product development process for home décor collections created for major retail clients throughout the United States.

The process began when our sales team received each client’s seasonal direction, target market, and merchandising needs. This typically included an approved color palette, trend references, price points, and specific product categories to develop. My role was to translate this information into cohesive product concepts that were both visually compelling and commercially viable.

Based on the client’s direction, I designed a wide range of products including decorative pillows, shower curtains, bath rugs, pet beds, tabletop accessories, and decorative storage boxes for jewelry and keepsakes. I developed original print and pattern designs, selected fabrics and materials, and specified embroidery techniques, embellishments, trims, and decorative finishes. Every design decision was made to balance aesthetics, functionality, cost, and manufacturability.

The purpose of this development phase was to ensure that each product not only reflected the client’s creative vision, but also met target price points and could be produced efficiently at scale. This required a deep understanding of materials, construction methods, and overseas manufacturing capabilities.

As the project progressed, I presented concepts and prototypes for review and incorporated client feedback through multiple rounds of revisions. This iterative process allowed us to refine proportions, colorways, materials, and technical details until the product met all creative and commercial expectations.

Once approved, I prepared comprehensive technical packages containing detailed measurements, material specifications, color references, construction instructions, embellishment placement, and production-ready artwork. These documents served as the manufacturing blueprint, ensuring that our factory partners in China could accurately reproduce the design.

I worked closely with overseas manufacturers during the sampling and production stages to answer technical questions, review prototypes, and resolve any issues related to quality, cost, or feasibility. This collaboration was critical to maintaining design integrity while meeting delivery deadlines and budget requirements.

This process was repeated across multiple collections and product categories simultaneously for large retail accounts, requiring strong project management, exceptional organization, and close coordination among sales teams, clients, and international manufacturing partners.

The ultimate goal was to transform a creative concept into a fully realized product that was beautiful, functional, manufacturable, and ready for large-scale distribution to retailers across the United States
