TEXTILE DESIGN FOR HOSPITALITY

FOR FABRIC INNOVATION

Design Process

My textile design process begins with a conversation. I work closely with each client to understand the essence of the project—its inspiration, purpose, and desired color palette. We review all elements of the concept, from mood and story to the intended environment, ensuring that every detail reflects the client’s vision.

Once the creative direction is established, I begin researching trends and gathering visual references that align with the client’s guidelines. From there, I move into the design phase—developing repeats, fabric textures, and woven constructions. This includes constant communication with mills in China, India, Turkey, Mexico, and the United States. I oversee sample development, making adjustments and refinements until we achieve the right balance of design, texture, and color.

After the client approves the final fabric, colorway, and design, we move into production.

I’ve had the pleasure of designing for leading hospitality brands including Hilton and all its sub-brands, Edition,The Ritz-Carlton,One Hotel,Four Seasons, and Mandarin Oriental across the United States. My work includes textiles for drapery, sheers, bedding, decorative pillows, faux leather and upholstery.

Throughout the process, I ensure that all fabrics meet the required industry standards, including NFPA 701 and NFPA 260 (Standard Methods of Fire Tests for Flame Propagation of Textiles and Upholstered Furniture Components), as well as the Wyzenbeek Test for upholstery performance and durability.

In collaboration with interior designers, I developed distinctive furniture pieces for hotel lobbies and restaurant spaces, creating statement designs that enhanced the guest experience and contributed to the overall design narrative of each project.

Drapery

Drapery has the power to completely transform a space, adding softness, movement, and a sense of atmosphere. I enjoyed working with a variety of fabrics, textures, and constructions to create designs that felt both functional and visually engaging. Whether filtering natural light, framing a view, or adding a layer of warmth, each drapery concept was thoughtfully developed to enhance the overall experience of the space.

This sheer concept was developed as part of a hotel design competition, with a focus on creating a sense of softness, light, and quiet elegance. Inspired by the way natural light moves through a space, I explored textures, transparency, and subtle pattern to achieve a balanced and refined design. Through research, material exploration, and thoughtful refinement, the final concept was created to enhance the guest experience while bringing warmth and sophistication to the interior.

Accent pillows and throws were among my favorite elements to design, offering the opportunity to add personality, texture, and warmth to a space. Through a variety of patterns, colors, and materials, I helped create distinctive accents that complemented each hotel's unique design story and enhanced the overall guest experience.

Designing woven textiles is a fascinating process where creativity starts long before the final product takes shape. By exploring yarns, textures, weave structures, and color combinations, each fabric develops its own unique personality. I enjoy the journey of transforming individual threads into textiles that not only serve a functional purpose but also add richness, depth, and visual interest to a space or product. The blend of craftsmanship, technical thinking, and creative exploration makes weave design one of the most rewarding parts of the development process.

Headboards

Custom woven textile developed for hotel headboards, combining high-performance yarns with a natural woven aesthetic. Designed to enhance the warmth and texture of the space while providing durability, comfort, and long-lasting performance in hospitality environments.

Bedding

Featured Bedding Collection: Roger Thomas | Pattern: Houndstooth, Color: White⁣

Designing bedding is about creating comfort, beauty, and a sense of home. From print and textile design to color stories and decorative details, I enjoyed developing collections that balanced aesthetics with everyday functionality. Thoughtfully layered textures, patterns, and materials came together to create inviting spaces that felt both comfortable and refined.

Throws

Abuela and Hermano Throw redesign

The Abuela and Hermano Throw, part of the Family Collection, was designed to evoke a sense of warmth, comfort, and familiarity. Made with natural fibers, I contributed to its design, focusing on texture, softness, and timeless appeal to create a cozy and welcoming accent piece.

Creating knits is especially rewarding because the design process begins with the fabric itself. Exploring yarns, stitch structures, and textures allows each piece to develop its own unique personality. I enjoy the combination of creativity and technical development that transforms simple materials into thoughtfully crafted products.
